Resurgence Map and Title Screen Progress by Greenwaves31 Resurgence Map and Title Screen Progress by Greenwaves31
Well, here's the progress I've made since the other day. Several sprites added, and a few buildings done. There are also a few events finished, and I'm almost done with America's character page. And yes, the title screen has its own music! You may notice I used the poses from the preview image for the Title screen, but I just thought they looked awesome! The title screen is going to have to change eventually, since England and Japan aren't in Gakuen uniform, but yeah. There are a couple of problems I'm having (I want everyone in the classroom to go to their seats once you talk to Hungary, for example) so I may begin recruiting a team, soon. Just some people who know RPG VX a little better than I do, perhaps, as well as a few artists and musicians. The script is pretty much done and everything, as are almost all the battle actions, but I don't want to have to use MMD for everything, and it would be nice to have a few original tracks for the game. Anyway, I'll post America's character sheet and a recruitment journal soon. :) Be on the lookout!

What is this game about? I read your strong point isn't creating events: I've had RPG Maker VX for almost three years now - events are long to make, but they can make magic happen. XD if you have any questions on events, feel free to ask away. :)

Thank you! I really appreciate it. Well, it's kind of a mystery/thriller type game. Events are really important to the whole setup since I have a lot of things that need to be obtained and done before certain parts of the story can progress.

I'm currently having trouble with three events:

1) The game begins after you go into a classroom. You can walk around and talk to students and such, which I was able to do fine, but when you talk to the teacher I want all the students to automatically go to their seats. I have no idea how to get them to react that way. ^^;

2) This event happens later in the game, but I'm working on it now just to get it out of the way. I don't know why I'm having such difficulty with it. You enter a room and walk up to a character who says something to you. He then leads you to another room and I want him to say something else when you get there. I've gotten the first couple of things done fine, but when I get to the other room he just repeats what was already said.

3) This one seems easy enough, I just can't figure it out. You enter a room with a character and a chest. I want the character to start chasing you when you get what's in the chest. I can't seem to get her to hold still until then. She just starts automatically chasing me.

Any pointers on how to get these events to work? Thank you in advance and I really appreciate your offer to help! :)

1) I'm not sure what you mean by "game begins after you go into a classroom.  You can walk around..." since a game begins once the player moves around freely by player definition, or from the start of the game opening by technical definition.  Otherwise, from what I gather:
- You have to create new events with no character graphic first [label them accordingly]
- Once you talk to the teacher, fadeout
- Create a switch [name it start story or something] and set it to autorun
- On the events with no graphic, go to a new page and have that set to the switch you made, while at the same time, give them a character graphic
- Transfer event if they're not placed in the right spots
- Fadein and continue cutscene

2) Seems like a switch problem - are the rooms on the same map, though? If so, then just continue the event into one thing.  If it's a different map, though - Talk A should end with switch <End Talk A, Begin Talk B> or something, then set that switch on the next New Page and Autorun it.

3) Try this: check the box Condition Item: <Insert Item> exists - then have the data for them chasing you.

That's what I can see at least; would be better if I had a screenshot or something, but hopefully this works out for you.  Question: how long have you had RPG Maker VX Ace for?

1. Yeah, I worded that weird. All I meant to say is that that happens at the beginning of the came. You're supposed to walk into this classroom, and there you can talk to a group of characters. I just want all the students to run to their desks after you talk to the teacher. Anyway, I'll give what you said a try and see how that works. :)

2. Yeah, the rooms are in the same map. I tried continuing the event and it just wasn't working. I was probably doing something wrong, but I figured it out. That scene's working smoothly now.

3. I don't know why I didn't think of doing that! The event is working perfectly now. Thank you. :)

I've had it for a few months, but I've hardly used it until recently since I've been working on the script writing and such for this game. I didn't get much practice in. ^^;

1. Hmm, if the students run to their desks, it depends on how many students there are, and how strong your computer is - because it can lag horribly if there's too many.  Otherwise:
- Keep the character graphics [Random moving will be harder to pinpoint sadly]
- Have a switch activate once you talk to teacher called <School time> or whatever.
- On the next page, set to switch <School time> or whatever and set it to Autorun, and have Set Move Route with each character graphic - make sure to uncheck Wait For Completion so multiple events can move at the same time rather than wait it out.

2. Good.  :)

3. You're welcome.  =^^=

Ah, I see.  :) I do it backwards: I use the program first to get used to it, then I make up stuff to fit for it.  XD

1. Alright then, I'll give that a shot. Thank you very much!

Yeah, that's probably a good idea. ^^; I wasn't really thinking about how difficult using the program could be until I actually went to use the thing. Still, thanks to a lot of help I've been getting, this project has been moving a lot faster than I expected. :)

1. Again, you're welcome.  =^^=

It's not a particularly difficult program to deal with unless you want to write your own scripts from scratch.  It just has a lot of functions (which are quite useful) to get the hang of.

One more question, I want to make a character walk away at the end of a conversation...but she keeps walking away the moment the conversation starts. Is there a way to time it so that she leaves right after the conversation ends? And then is there a way to make the character she's talking with continue to talk after she's left? I'm just at a loss as to how to get these events to happen in chronological order.
